This is how 2 referees rated Kristine:
I am a fourth-year Environmental Engineering student at the University of Guelph. I have also completed an advanced diploma in Chemical Engineering Technology from Sheridan College, where I graduated with high honours. I have taken numerous math classes at the college and university level (Calc I & II, differential equations, linear algebra, economics), as well as many chemistry courses (organic, inorganic, instrumental, analytical, physical).
Returning to school as a mature student allowed me to focus on my learning habits, and how I best-retained material. In my upper college years, I worked as a teaching assistant in the chemistry labs, covering course material and demonstrating experiments to the students.
It is important to build a solid foundation and thorough understanding in any subject before you can advance and take on more challenging topics. Students should be comfortable asking questions whenever something is unclear so that they develop a real knowledge of the topic. I strive to encourage deep learning as opposed to surface learning (memorizing and pattern matching) so that the skills developed will be retained long-term, and they can be applied to a wide variety of topics.
