Personal Description:

My name is Katie and I will be completing my B.Ed in April 2019. I have a BFA in dance with a second teachable in English literature. I love Shakespeare and would talk about it forever if you let me! I have published work in the magazine "The Dance Current". love animals, and have worked closely with my local humane society developing children's programming that integrates learning and compassion. I have two cats and a dog- they are my very best friends. In my spare time I crochet and hike with my dog. In addition, I love fitness, I truly believe that a healthy body works in tandem with a healthy mind.

Tutoring Experience:

My teaching degree is within the intermediate-senior division (high school) however, I have experience with grades K-12. My classroom experience in particular is with grades 6, 9, 10 and 12, but I have access to all curricular material and ample resources that I can tailor to each individual student. Prior to teaching in a school classroom, I have taught dance and yoga to ages 2+.

Tutoring Approach:

My dance background has helped mould my teaching style. Kinaesthetic and tactile learning is typically a hit with students who struggle to grasp material, and I prefer to get my students up and engaging with the material hands on. I have a multitude of props I have used in dance and yoga classes which I will pull out for tutoring sessions if I feel a student may benefit from this type of interaction. I like to do a holistic assessment with my students prior to beginning work with the curriculum so that they can progress in a fashion that aligns with their school's standards.
