Information About Kai
This is how 2 referees rated Kai:
I am an Ontario and British Columbia Certified teacher specializing in teaching secondary math and physics (certification available on the public registry with full detail). I obtained both of my Bachelor of Science (physics) and Master of Teaching degrees from the University of Toronto. I am also completing the Master of Mathematics for Teacher degree from the University of Waterloo on a part-time basis.
I currently teach Pre-Calculus 12, Physics 11, 12 and AP Economics at an independent school in Vancouver. Tutoring AP Physics, AP Calculus, and Math Competitions are also among my specialties. In the past, I taught Pre-Calculus 11, Pre-Calculus 12, and Calculus 12 for multiple sessions.
Tutor Rate: $60/hr, minimum 1hr per session, we can do half-hour increments afterwards.
Prior to the last year of my undergraduate studies, I never planned on going into teaching, but then realized that I excel at explaining problems to people and reading their reactions while doing it.
I taught at some of the most prestigious independent schools in Canada (University of Toronto Schools, Appleby College), as well as schools dedicated for students struggling with every academic and life problems imaginable at the public board. I found one theme that occurs to students at literally all levels: unnecessary stress about mathematics. As a teacher, I do my best to remedy that stress by providing clear and specific expectations and eliminating the unpredictable as much as possible without having to lower the standards in any way. I find my students react very well to this strategy and generally put in much more effort when presented with the bite-sized tasks and clear instructions.
I already have multiple students that referred to me as the best math teacher they ever had in my short career. Each student’s preferences and learning habit may vary, but I take personal pride in shaping the best math and physics students I could.
I will not be the student’s everyday teacher given my full-time teaching position. Simply put, I aim to equip them with the excellent learning habit that will benefit them in the long run in my sessions.
Special Note for Pre-Calculus 12:
This is the course I have taught the most times (4) and tutored the most students in. Due to its structure and scope of material, it is possible to prepare well in advance for the course and expect a good grade. The first unit of the course is usually functions and transformations. If mastered, it will lay a solid foundation for the entire course.
I only offer sessions at my residence at Lansdowne station (1 min walk). This is the only viable way for me to handle the course load, my own studies and tutoring at the same time.
