Personal Description:

I have finished my co-op degree at the University of Waterloo, graduating with a B.MATH in Honours Mathematical Physics, Joint Pure Mathematics. I am a big nerd; a huge fan of all things Tolkien and an avid gamer. I'll be applying to graduate programs soon, and hope to get into the Perimeter Scholars program.

Please note: I've listed that I'm able to travel 1 km to tutor. I mean to say that I specifically would like to meet in a central, public place, unless you'd like to come to my home or meet via Skype. I propose the London Public Library as meeting place.

Tutoring Experience:

In Gr. 12 I was a tutor in my schools Peer Tutoring Centre. I personally manage a few junior students who had been flagged from Gr. 8 as in need of assistance, primarily in math and science, and I saw them make real progress and change their attitude toward school in general. I also had a high school co-op placement in a Gr. 11 University Physics class and a Gr. 12 Calculus and Vectors. In both of these I marked tests and quizzes, took up homework in front of the class, and helped the students during time in class to work on assignments. In the physics class I also assisted with lab activities and prepared some visual aids for the students.
In the Fall term (Sep-Dec) of 2011 and the Winter term (Jan-Apr) of 2013 I was a Teaching Assistant at the University of Waterloo Dubai Campus. I marked A LOT of assignments and ran tutorial sessions for a number of math and physics courses for first and second year math and engineering students. I also helped the students both during school hours and in the dorm as needed.

Tutoring Approach:

For the me the most important part of tutoring is listening, to really understand what a student's misunderstanding are. I know it's also important to be able to explain concepts in different ways, and be aware if a student just isn't getting it the way you're explaining right now, and try something else.
