Information About JoannaEdmonton tutor
This is how a referee rated Joanna:
My name is Joanna and I am a fourth year nursing student at the University of Alberta.
This past summer, I volunteered as a tutor for a 6th grade elementary student impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In this role, I created weekly lesson plans and supported the student in problem solving and assignment completion. We reviewed past material and introduced new concepts based on the Alberta curriculum. I have developed familiarity with tutoring over platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Team, and Skype.
Currently, I also work as a Preschool, Child, Youth Instructor at the YMCA. In this role, I organize and facilitate programs for children and youth to learn skills such as cooking and physical literacy. I often work with children with learning disabilities and support each student's learning by developing individualized learning goals, plans, and activities. I often teach information in a variety of ways, such as through writing, pictures, videos, and hands-on activities. Additionally, through my nursing education, I have background knowledge and experience with different teaching methods and approaches for individuals with learning disabilities.
I think that learning is unique for each individual student. I approach tutoring by collaborating with the student to identify their strengths and weaknesses. I also set short term and long-term goals and identify their learning preferences. Based on their preferences, I will teach information in a variety of ways, such as through writing, pictures, videos, and hands-on activities (or all combined)!
