Personal Description:
Hello! I'm Isabel, a 4th year student in psychology, cognitive science, and philosophy at the University of Toronto.
My aim is to become an interaction designer/HCI researcher, and I'm eager to work on projects that lie at the intersection of my passions -- minds, futuristic technology, design thinking, and humanitarian values.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been a tutor for the past 2 years with TutorBright and TutorPrep, working with a range of students from grades 1 to 10, primarily in mathematics but also in English, science, French and social studies. I've also assisted in drafting and editing papers from grade 8 to university level.
Tutoring Approach:
I do a lot of initial 'feeling-out', in terms of both student and parental expectations. While my initial preference is to adopt a holistic approach to tutoring in which I serve a dual role as tutor and mentor, sometimes what makes everyone happiest is to just focus heavily on material! I'm happy to say I can do both.
When possible however, I'm very eager to extend beyond what is taught at school, especially when it comes to improving learning skills and developing self-efficacy and taking up the mantle of one's own learning. In addition, I am always over the moon when there's an opportunity to support students in cultivating their own interests, whether it's devising a research project, offering further resources, or just being excited together!
