A Math, Economics, Finance, and English tutor since 2014. M.A. in Economics from Queen's University, former Investment Analytics and Finance Professional, and current writer for The Beaverton.
Currently enrolled in the University of Ottawa Bachelor of Education program and managing a group of 12 hall monitors at University of Toronto Schools high school location.
My role has always been explaining complex and technical concepts to individuals with varying levels of understanding and that has served me well in achieving strong outcomes with the students I tutor.
I've been tutoring since I began my Masters in Economics in 2014. I'd say one of my strengths as a tutor is my ability to communicate complex subjects in an easy to digest way.
I scored in the 98 percentile on the Analytical Writing portion of the GRE (I can help with essays!), I have five years experience implementing complex Investment Analytics Systems in the Wealth Management Industry, and am an award winning improviser and sketch comedy writer with two Just for Laughs showcases under my belt. I coach improv groups and also write for the Beaverton website.
I currently work at a private school interacting with large numbers of grade 7-12 students as I prepare for my Bachelors of Education in the fall. I enjoy tutoring because it's very rewarding for me to see students finally understand a difficult subject and move forward with their studies.
I believe clear communication, a lighthearted approach to learning, and listening to your students is the key to understanding course material and complex academic subjects.
I do my best to use simple analogies and real life examples to ground the material in the real world and then proceed to explore what that topic really means. A successful tutoring session is one where the student has an "AH-HA!' moment and sees the material in a new and engaging way.
Everyone has their own learning style and I use my backgrounds in Improv, Finance, and Education to look for the best way to succeed together.
