Information About Hayley
This is how 2 referees rated Hayley:
I am extremely passionate about teaching! I was born and raised in Winnipeg, and experienced great success at school and at university due to amazing and unforgettable teachers. Not only did I experience great teachers in the classroom, but both my parents are teachers. I recently completed a masters degree specializing in Human Computer Interaction, studying how we can design software to increase learnability. Effective communication is important to me, especially after working in Japan for one year and learning the importance of clarity when there is a language barrier.
I have been tutoring and teaching for 4 years in various settings. At UBC, I was a teaching assistant for 2 years. I lectured to classes with 20-40 undergraduate or masters-level students and gave one-on-one and group feedback on projects and writing. I also was a private tutor for 4 years throughout my undergraduate degree. I mostly tutored high school students in math.
My goal for my students is to create understanding and confidence in being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. Learning takes place in an environment of mutual respect in which the student is encouraged to think and make new connections for themselves. I adjust my approach depending on the student’s needs and learning style.
