Hello :) Im a masters student in the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta. I completed a BSc with distinction, majoring in biology with a focus on neuroscience.
I've been tutoring with First Tutors for almost 2 years and I'm currently a teaching assistant (TA) for the Department of Psychology at the University of Alberta. As a TA, I've lectured to classrooms up to 120 students and helped prepare the midterms and final exams. I recently independently organized a Chemistry 30 prep session to prepare Grade 12's and supplemented the course with several mock diplomas. Prior to First Tutors, I was a substitute teacher for math and science in Uganda and held after-class sessions to prepare students for the Ugandan national high school entry exam.
From my experience with teaching, everyone learns differently and can grasp knowledge at different rates. My tutoring method tailors to each student by recognizing their strengths and weaknesses. We will tackle whatever concepts you struggle with as well as why you may not understand the material in order to find new approaches. I believe more in active learning rather than passive so I can also help you develop new techniques to study the material in order to be self- sufficient once you no longer need a tutor :)
