This is how 2 referees rated Diana:
I'm an intern architect in the Toronto area. I have completed both my bachelors degree and masters degree passing my thesis with distinction. Outside of work, I spend my free time playing sports, tutoring or travelling.
I began tutoring in high school, when a teacher approached me to help a younger student as their private tutor. Working as a swimming instructor, I had the training and patience required to do so, and the way I approached math broke it down into elementary pieces that was easier to understand. I have continued to engage in tutoring and teaching since then.
I have tutored younger students, and peers both on a personal capacity in my own time, as well as spending the last two years of university as a TA (teaching assistant) In my capacity as a teaching assistant I worked one on one with the students, as well as in small groups and answered questions/marked all tests and assignments. Additionally, as part of a minor degree obtained, I took courses in teaching for different learning styles, particularly geared towards teaching languages but applicable across the board.
Outside of academic tutoring, my first job was as a swimming instructor. This taught me patience, to understand the unique needs of each learning and that you get further when you work together.
My approach to tutoring is to find logical common ground with the student. Together, we work towards strengthening their base knowledge of the subject matter to have a sturdy foundation to build on. From this, we work on techniques to break down complex problems and subjects into more manageable bits which come together to form the solution. Understand the problem and you can start to understand the solution. This makes formulas logical and easier to understand/memorize.
I work with each individual to better understand their unique learning style and present the information in a manner adapted to it.
