Personal Description:

Both reading and writing have been life-long loves of mine - from storytime as a kid to literary criticism in university. I sometimes write essays for fun. No one is marking me anymore, but I love to research things that I am interested in or passionate about, and my enthusiasm is infectious. I bring that love and energy to those I teach.
Do you need help making Shakespeare fun or relevant?
Do you worry that your cover letters are letting you down?
Does grammar and spelling make you want to run out of the classroom, screaming?
Does your teacher ask you fix comma splices? Do you have no clue what comma splices are?
Do you struggle to make your opinions and ideas make sense in an essay?
Do you have lot of ideas, but get bogged down by blank pages?
Then I would love to help!

Tutoring Experience:

I have been working with kids and young adults for over 12 years, working with very diverse groups through outdoor education and informal peer assistance. I have been helping friends and peers edit essays and wrestle with readings since high school, and I am the person that friends and co-workers go to when they want help editing cover letters, essays, applications, and stories.
I spend life between the indoor world and outdoor education, and have taught and supported students from all levels of experience in many different types of challenge.

Tutoring Approach:

I am thorough and patient, and I have a good sense of humour.
I believe that mistakes and struggles are just learning opportunities, and setting concrete goals is the best way to achieve progress.
I enjoy coming up with creative solutions to learning challenges, whether that be finding better structures for my students to use, or making a tricky topic more relevant to them.
I find that the best way to figure out how to support someone is to actively listen and get to heart of their frustration.
I don't believe that learning should be boring or unpleasant.
