Personal Description:

My name is Anand . I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, but spent some years living and traveling in Europe. I received my Masters degree in Mathematical Physics from the University of Alberta. I love the logic and beauty of math, and I love to learn more about how the universe works. I enjoy travelling, practice meditation, and play hockey. My other research interests include Artificial Intelligence and computer science. My friends describe me as friendly, easy going and patient - but I'm how to work hard when it is required!

Tutoring Experience:

I have over five years tutoring and teaching experience. While working on my Masters degree, at the University of Alberta, I was hired as a Teaching Assistant where my duties included preparing and giving lectures to classes, working in the tutoring help centre, and creating and grading assignments; I did this job for two years. I have also worked as a private tutor during my undergraduate and graduate studies, for all grade levels from grade 5 up to and including university students.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe strongly that the best way to teach someone is to first try to understand how they see things, what their perceptions of the subject matter are - in this way I can more easily pinpoint what mistakes or misunderstandings they are making. The beauty of math and physics is that they are very precise, and logical, and yet involve a great deal of creativity and art. Therefore, it is possible for anyone to become good at math and physics, I believe; but, it is the responsibility of the teacher to identify how the students mind works, and to adjust their teaching style to suit the student, rather than feeling that one style of teaching should fit all. I strive to do this in every lesson.
