Personal Description:

I am a Biochemical Engineer and former postdoctoral research fellow in the department of Chemistry at the University of Toronto (St. George). I'm very interested in fluid mechanics- or the science behind the behavior and manipulation of liquids and gases under different conditions. My doctoral and postdoctoral research involved the use of "microfluidics" or tiny ('micro'-liter) volumes of liquid to perform complex chemical analyses. I implemented some of this work for the diagnosis and surveillance of infectious diseases such as Zika, Measles and Rubella, and Malaria.
I love everything science and engineering, and particularly the impact of science on our daily lives. In my spare time, I enjoy painting, sketching, and exploring the great outdoors!

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught university (undergradua**Contact Detail Removed**vel Chemical Engineering courses for ~4 years (2012-2016), which included physics, math, fluid mechanics, process control, and unit operations laboratory courses.
I've also worked as a writing center tutor, which involved helping students outline and draft technical articles, lab reports, and journal publications. My experience is mainly related to teaching older students (Grades 11, 12, and university or college students).

Tutoring Approach:

I recognize that the best way to 'learn', is to connect theoretical concepts to everyday life. It is important to know why you need your course-material in the first place! To do this, I bring all the real-world experience that being a scientist and engineer has given me to my math and science classes. I illustrate concepts with interesting stories in science, research, and the practical aspects of life. I follow this up with a more structured approach tailored to the student's individual needs, where I go over the theory, demonstrate a few problem sets, and assign problem sets. From time to time, I assign research articles/video journals that the student can use to distill fundamental concepts. This is a great confidence builder, and encourages students of all ages to be more inquisitive!
