Personal Description:

My name is Rebecca and I am a high school teacher, professional writer and consultant. I have an honour's Bachelor's Degree in Professional Writing and a Master's Degree in Corporate Communications and Public Relations. I have a great passion for teaching English, Reading, Writing, Essay help and SSAT prep. My students get the advantage of working one-on-one with a professional writer who has had her work published in newspapers, magazines, and fiction publications. I often tailor my lesson plans, exercises, and homework around each student's unique gifts, learning style, strengths and areas of improvement. All students are given the proper tools they need to become advanced literary writers, readers, and scholars while also being able to speak English confidently and professionally. In addition, my students are also given exercises and writing assignments that prepare them for both high school and university level writing. We focus on using proper grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation while simultaneously working on reading comprehension and descriptive writing.

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked as a highly regarded classroom teacher at the international high school of Birmingham International Collegiate. I had been working there for approximately 2 years while doing private tutoring sessions. I teach priva**Contact Detail Removed**ssons with elementary and middle school students. I have also conducted group tutoring classes where I have taught Focused Reading and Writing Workshops for high school students. Through this experience, I have learned and practiced the art of organizing my own lesson plans, exercises, and homework. Prior to being an English tutor, I had been working as a professional writer who has had news articles, blogs, and fiction pieces published in numerous publications. I have also volunteered at many mental health facilities and learning centres where I have provided homework help as well as service programming. My passion for teaching and expanding the knowledge base and critical thinking skills in my students have become my life's work, mission, and goal.

Tutoring Approach:

As an English high school teacher with professional writing experience, I often will organize and design my lesson plans, exercises, and homework. I ensure that my students get the instructional teaching, practice, and individual work they need to succeed. My intention is that all students benefit from multiple ways of learning so that they can all be exposed and mobilized to learn in the way that suits their learning style best. For example, those that learn best in class benefit from having regular in class exercises and discussions that lead to group work and discussions that allow them to shine amongst their peers and in front of their instructor. Alternatively, those that work best working on their own are always given homework and practice exercises so they can learn complex concepts by practicing them regularly. With every concept or practice, students are given tools that enhance their reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, essay structure, descriptive writing, and persuasive writing. All concepts and learnings are given follow up homework and exercises so they can confidently absorb the information and be ready for the following concept which will progressively lead into one another. All teachings are designed to gradually advance every student's skills so that they are constantly getting better and are always being challenged to exceed their abilities and command of the English language.
