Personal Description:
I am a current University of Regina student working on a bachelors degree is secondary science education. My major is physics and my minor is mathematics.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been working as a one-on-one tutor since 2018, both privately and through another tutoring company. I mainly tutor high school maths and sciences (with the exception of biology), but occasionally work with younger students as well. I have done face-to-face turning as well as online tutoring. Aside from my paid tutoring I have also competed two small internships as part of my education degree. I’ve been in everything from grade 4 to 8 classrooms so while I haven’t done a lot of tutoring with younger students I am not totally inexperienced. I have also worked with students living with ADD and ADHD, and haven’t had any issues altering my plans to accommodate them.
Tutoring Approach:
I try to take a laid back approach to tutoring and teaching. I understand that students don’t want to seem dumb/silly in front of their tutor/teacher but sometimes incorrect answers tell me more about what’s going on than right answers. I usually spend the first session taking with the student, figuring out what they like to do, what they are struggling with, and how much support they would like/need. I also believe that practice makes perfect and like to send out worksheets to my students if there is something that they are really struggling with.
