Personal Description:

I'm a professional Geologist-IT, with a BSc from the University of Calgary. I completed this degree with the intention of establishing a strong interdisciplinary background in earth science, physics, and math, so that I might complete further certification (BEd) and become a STEM high school teacher. I am a current Teacher in Training (BEd) at Laurier University.
I'm a Team Canada track and field athlete (800m/1500m) and I love the outdoors. I love to explore the world on my feet. I enjoy yoga, hiking, and drawing. I always read two books at a time: a fiction and nonfiction- right now I'm reading 'The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle' and 'The Stuff of Thought'. If you have book recommendations, pass them on!

Tutoring Experience:

I have experience tutoring on online platforms (Dada and VIP-Kid tutoring), but most of my tutoring experience is face-to-face. I've worked in both group setting (Sylvan Learning) and with individual programs (Syllabus tutoring). I'm on the emergency supply teaching list for the Wellington Public School board, and have experience as a Teaching Assistant in Math and CompSci high school classes. I am comfortable tutoring a range of ages, (dis)abilities, and student motivations.
As a Team Canada athlete, I've spoken in classrooms and gymnasiums, encouraging students to pursue education and physical literacy.

Tutoring Approach:

I am very methodical in my approach to mathematics and sciences, while encouraging a level of creativity and consideration of real-life application. I am known for my patience and ability to listen to students: with this strength in active-listening, I'm often able to find the crux of a student's challenge in a subject. I believe that all students have the capacity to grow and learn, with effective encouragement and communication of knowledge.
