Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Iman. I am an international student from the U.K. currently studying Environmental Management and Geography at the University of Toronto Mississauga on a full scholarship. I completed the IB diploma scoring 40 points, ranking in the top 2%. The subjects I took were English Language and Literature, Geography, Biology, Mathematics, Environmental Systems and French. My friends would describe me as friendly, a good listener, conscientious and hard working. I explore my interest in sustainable development through volunteering, reading, photography and even baking!

Tutoring Experience:

I have volunteered at my weekly religious classes for six years helping to teach the curriculum to children aged 4-12. For one year I worked with a girl with special needs by assisting her in the classroom to ensure she is engaged and that the learning environment is inclusive. This summer I was a facilitator at a summer camp for children aged 9-13 where I created and delivered lesson plans focused on building self-esteem. Having lived in Kenya, I have had several years of experience working amongst children at local schools teaching them how to read, write, and speak English. During my time in India I also worked in a government school teaching Mathematics to children aged 4-7. During one of my summers I gained work experience as a teaching assistant in a Grade 3 classroom at a private British school. I have also consistently helped my fellow students with their essay writing skills.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to tutoring will vary per student. I would like to first meet with the student to understand their strengths and the areas that they wish to improve on; after that I will create an individual lesson plan that best suits their learning style whether it be auditory, visual or kinaesthetic. I am prepared to create material that will help my student grasp the content the fastest, whether it be creating Mathematics worksheets, preparing discussion questions to understand concepts in Geography or create essay templates or. I am also prepared to use online resources if it would be beneficial to the student's learning process. My goal is to ensure that all of my students feel comfortable enough to keep asking questions!
