Information About Hugh
Castlegar tutorPersonal Description:
I am a parent of grown children, and one child in late teens. Experienced in ADHD, and Conduct Disorder, as well as a wide variety of other mental health issues.
Presently I am a Family Support Worker P/T, but I have been a Community Support Worker (helping adults with diverse abilities in the community) and a Vocational Worker.
My work experience also includes management roles in which training was a central dominant aspect of the work, as well as being an actual trainer at a small vocational school.
I am a calm person by nature, and I tend to reduce stress.
Tutoring Experience:
Experience as a tutor specifically is limited. I have tutored my own kids, and tutored adults with cognitive delays in math and reading, as part of my work.
The form only allows me to offer one subject, but I can offer help for math and science, and for older kids and adults I can offer tutoring with psychology.
Tutoring Approach:
I have a well-practiced behavioral/coaching approach. Reward correct behaviors and play down or ignore incorrect responses. Also, it is my habit to place the focus of behaviors on the student. In this way, they build confidence knowing that the outcomes were the result of their efforts, not the tutors.
