This is how 3 referees rated Vicky:
I'm new(ish) to Brisbane and emigrated here to embarked on a PhD in Biomaterials. I've just (2017) completed my Master's in Materials Science at Oxford, and prior to moving here spent 8/9months working in New Zealand.
When I'm not in the lab, I'll most probably be found running around the city or exploring all that Mt Coot-tha has to offer. I'm a keen long-distance runner but also have been known to row, cycle, swim, and power-lift. I also usually have a little crafty project on the go (I'm really into textiles) or am attempting to cook up something delicious in the kitchen…
I've tutored a whole range of students, both children and adults, with a whole host of different aims. For some, passing an exam will unlock numerous academic and career-focused doors, whilst for others, tuition is a way to solidify understanding, plug the gaps in knowledge, and push their mathematical abilities to the max.
I started 1:1 tutoring during my undergraduate, then moved into relief teaching and a teaching assistant role (based in a maths department) and finally worked as a full-time tutor based at Christ's College in New Zealand. Here I took tutorials of up to three students covering topics from basic algebra and fractions to scholarship level and above.
Learning needs to be fun. Fun can mean lots of different things to different students. For some, fun is getting hands-on with maths (sweets, counters, real0life problems, apps/technology), for others, it is simply having an opportunity to test and push their mathematical boundaries and explore the subject.
Whatever a student's definition of fun is, I hope to make tutorials something that they look forward to and can really engage with, Engaged students tend to ask the insightful 'silly' questions. Each of these 'silly' questions deserves a good, thoughtful answer which I aim to provide.
