Study Skills / Essay Writing
I am a qualified historian (specifically on Viking Age Britain) who was awarded their PhD in 2011 by the University of Western Australia. As well as History I am also familiar with using archaeological sources. I have published a book, an online database, and various academic journal articles and book chapters. I have also been Consultant Editor on the children's book 50 Things You Should Know About The Vikings (2017). **Removed By Admin****Web Address Removed** This experience demonstrates my written skills, as well as comprehension, accuracy, and an eye for detail.
I have extensive teaching experience in the university sector, dating back to 2008. In that time I have delivered lectures, tutored classes, marked undergraduate, honours, and MA work, and done one-on-one tutoring. I have also given talks to primary and high school students. As a parent of a primary school-aged child I am also familiar with the curriculum and learning tools used in primary school.
My approach to tuition is simple - I speak to the student (and parents/guardians) to find out what they hope to achieve, and then put in place procedures to achieve those results. Once I have spoken to the student and parents/guardians to obtain an understanding of their strengths and weaknesses, likes and dislikes, an individualised approach will then be adopted. Beyond the specific curriculum being covered the sessions are designed to engage the student in the learning process and to build their confidence.
