Personal Description:
I am a highly experienced Year 7-10 maths tutor with 13 years teaching experience as a teacher.
I especially welcome struggling students. If your child is under-achieving in maths for whatever reason and sincerely wants to improve, I will be the greatest help you can find. If he/she is lacking interest in maths, I have ways to get him/her interested so that he/she will want to do more maths and, in doing so, his/her maths skills will improve greatly.
I give one to one private tuition in maths and currently have one student for a few years. When she first started with me, she didn’t like maths and had no confidence. She avoided maths. Now she likes it and wants to try solving maths problems by herself. She is approaching challenging maths questions with confidence and she even helps her friends at school. If I had not been successful, she would not have been with me for so many years.
I use brain training and suggest strategies and techniques for students to gain competitive advantages over their peers. I need to stress that the sooner your child starts with me the better in order for him/her to build a very strong foundation in preparation for his/her year 11/12 maths. An analogy would be that a tall building is increasingly likely to collapse as you keep building upwards on weak foundation. When that time comes, it will be too late.
My approach to teaching maths is to focus on building a strong foundation in maths based on sound understanding of basic concepts and to then use them to derive the formulas rather than relying on memory or cheat sheets. I have a natural ability to know my students and where they have problems with maths. I pitch my teaching according to the student’s ability and work from there up. I motivate them and equip them with understanding and strategies so they can do the academic heavy lifting themselves. Your child will find that maths becomes increasingly easy. You can consider me somewhat like a personal gym trainer/coach, but in maths. I work very closely with the progression of the student’s maths curriculum at school.
As a teacher by profession, I have very ited time. Day in day out an effective teacher makes learning easy and enjoyable for the students. Someone who is very good at maths may not necessarily be able to teach it well. Hence my rate is not low ($60/hour). I am however able to charge a lower rate of $50/hour if you come to me in Altona Meadows (near Point Cook) rather than me coming to you. So if you are interested, please get in touch with me and we can meet up for a chat to see if we are mutually suitable. This meeting is free.
Teacher registration and client referees available on request.
Tuition Experience:
I have taught for 13 years in Victorian public schools. I have lots of success and experience teaching students with learning difficulties. I am classified as an experienced teacher with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in Victoria and have trained and supported pre-service teachers. I am a registered teacher in Victoria. Teacher registration provided on request.
Tutoring Approach:
I focus on the student's individual learning style and ability. I make concepts easy for students to understand and work on building a strong foundation as described above. Nowadays I prefer to just tutor maths.
