Personal Description:

Hi,

My name is Mankirat and I am currently working as Mathematics teacher at Warwick Senior High School. I have been working in this role for 9 years now and in this time I have taught all Years from 7-12 (including ATAR Math Methods Units 1-2 and 3-4).

Coming from an Engineering background, I have always impressed upon my students the skills of critical thinking, problem solving and analysis which have become even more important in the world or AI and automation today.

My approach to tutoring and/or teaching involves getting students to think, analyse and understand what they are learning. Often students spend substantial amount of time memorising procedures in mathematics only to miss the thrill and excitement of discovering patterns, generalising, understanding and making sense of what they learnt. I have found with my students in the past that when they actually understand where a formula/rule/procedure comes from then they find the confidence to solve problems which at first seem overwhelming.

With my current teaching load at school, I am available to teach on the weekend. I usually prefer students letting me know through the week what they need help with so I can bring any appropriate resources to support their learning.

Tutoring Approach:

Introduction of the topic via power points or hand written notes followed by challenging questions and discussion on the lesson. Doubts and questions discussed at the end of the lesson. Feedback to parents at the end of the tute.
