Information about Jonathan - Essendon tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Jonathan:
I am currently a 3rd year undergraduate uni student who enjoys learning and teaching biology. At the moment, I am studying University level Biology, with a specific focus on Immunology and Microbiology. Outside of University, I consider myself a friendly, outgoing individual who loves socialising with others. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball with friends, playing/listening to music as well as reading about technology.
I am currently offering tuition in the following areas:
- Years 7-10 Biology
- VCE Biology Units 1/2 & 3/4
- Years 7-10 Maths
- VCE Mathematical Methods Units 1/2 & 3/4
- Undergraduate Molecular Cell Biology, Immunology and Microbiology
I completed VCE Biology in 2014, achieving a raw study score of 45. After starting uni in 2016, I began tutoring VCE Biology, and have done so for almost 3 years now. In the past, I have had multiple students with improved SAC scores (B to A+), with some achieving study scores of 40+. In 2017, two of my students achieved ATARs of 99+.
I have also had experience teaching classes ranging from 10-20 students, as part of the VCE Summer School program (organised by UniMelb). More recently, I have given lectures to University students in Molecular Cell Biology and Immunology.
My lessons for VCE Biology typically run for 1.5 hours, at a discounted price of $70. During this time, I aim to teach a new concept in the first hour and proceed to apply this concept in exam-styled questions, illustrating how to formulate a succinct, precise and well-constructed answer. In my lessons, I aim to illustrate important concepts using illustrated diagrams, and supply my students with my own learning resources to facilitate their understanding of the topic. I also aim to tailor my lessons towards student's learning styles, predominantly using a friendly and approachable way of teaching to engage and communicate.
For non-VCE Biology, my classes run for 1 hour, whereby ~40 minutes is spent on concepts and 20 minutes is spent on application in questions. I provide detailed illustrations of biological concepts, and supply questions on each topic to enhance understanding.
I also do group tutoring, and highly recommend it, as it allows students to learn from questions asked by their peers. Group discounts do apply, with a maximum group of 4.
Please contact me via email or phone if you were interested. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
