Tutoring Approach:

I tutor from my own premises and online.
I am not available to travel to tutoring jobs, but Online Tutoring is a very good option for those who live too far from me.
My tutor students are a mix of primary school children and secondary school students wanting to improve their performance or to focus on specific areas of difficulty and Tertiary students needing tuition academically or wanting help with the presentation of their work eg. essay writing skills, editing etc.
I have found one-on-one tutoring to be a very effective way of identifying concepts and skills that need to be introduced, re-taught & reinforced and find that learning skills improve rapidly once these are addressed.

I use a very wide variety of educational resources from my own specially set-up room at my premises.

My method of progression for tutoring is to have an Initial Interview with the parents & student to ascertain their concerns & expectations.
I carefully examine any relevant reports from the School, Educational Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, Audiologists etc. to identify areas of concern.

I would ask to see some current school work so that I can gain an understanding of the students current ability level & the teaching style they are experiencing.
I also obtain a curriculum plan for the term from the class room teacher so that I can make sure the student is coping with current work. This is very important for their confidence in the classroom.
I use various diagnostic tools to ascertain the student's current level in the required areas then develop an individualised plan to address weaknesses and missing skills.

An important area that I monitor and work at developing are concentration levels. I achieve this by gradually lengthening the activity 'blocks' within the tutor session over time.

Regular discussion with parents/guardians/teachers are an integral part of the tuition process and I feel that this communication is extremely important to the student's learning outcome.
