This is how 2 referees rated Helena:
My name is Helena , I am a French native speaker and I am currently doing a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Software Major and Bachelor of Business Finance Major at University of Technology, Sydney (UTS). I am a patient, understanding, communicative and friendly person who is keen to share her knowledge and experience with others. I currently work as a private tutor and as a peer tutor at UTS and I find it very rewarding to assist students in their misunderstandings and build their knowledge and confidence towards a subject.
I am also known as a conscientious, committed and passionate person who enjoy working with others. Moreover, I am willing to provide tailored and effective learning materials (notes, exercises sheets, quizzes) to ensure my students enjoy the session and successfully achieve their academic goals.
I currently work as private tutor for various subjects (Mathematics, French, English) at various levels (Primary school, High School and University). My responsibilities include:
- Preparing weekly lessons and worksheets tailored to the students’ needs
- Developing creative and effective teaching strategies to improve the students’ learning experience.
I also currently work as a U:PASS Leader at UTS which is an official student learning program designed to assist students who are studying subjects that are perceived as difficult or that historically have a high failure rate. My responsibilities include:
- Establishing a constructive and friendly learning environment where students collaborate and learn from each other.
- Facilitating discussions and questions to encourage students' participation and confidence-building.
- Developing creative and effective teaching strategies and learning techniques.
- Preparing weekly worksheets which test students' knowledge about mathematical concepts.
In my past and current tuitions, I always prioritise my students' needs and goals. Therefore, I always make sure that the lesson structure and the materials provided suit my students and enable them to successfully achieve high results.
At the first lesson, I ask questions and encourage the student to ask me some in order to know each other a bit more, which in turn will enable us to work in a studious and friendly atmosphere. This will allow me to understand why the student has difficulties in the subject and to analyse which learning method will be the most useful.
The typical structure of my tuition is: I start by reviewing the materials of the previous lesson, then I work with the student on the new lesson by assisting them with any misunderstanding and encouraging them to ask me questions. Afterwards, I test the student’s understanding by providing them a worksheet (prepared by me before the lesson) and make them work on it with my help. Finally, I check whether the lesson has been well understood or not and, if the student would like to prepare in advance for the next tuition, I give them some homework.
