Information about Annette - Elsternwick tutor
This is how 3 referees rated Annette:
I am a highly motivated and experienced English and ESL teacher. A few years after attaining a Bachelor of Education, I completed a Master of Applied Linguistics (TESOL) because I wanted to understand more about second and subsequent language acquisition. In addition to teaching children, I have experience in teaching adults, tutoring and teaching online (groups and one-to-one). I am highly ambitious with a desire to continue learning and updating my skills. I hold a current Victorian Teachers’ Registration certificate.
When I’m not teaching English and preparing lessons, I enjoy catching up with family and friends, writing a blog and speaking French.
Over the past ten years I have experienced teaching a diverse range of students from many different countries, cultures and age groups. I began my teaching career in the Tasmanian Education Department as an online teacher. After that, I taught mostly ESL in Education Department schools for several years. Since moving to Melbourne two years ago, I have taught at a TAFE college, an International school and undertaken some relief work at tutoring college for primary and high school students. Since February 2019, I have been teaching ESL part-time at a Community Centre. Since mid-March I have been teaching solely online due to Covid-19 restrictions using platforms such as Zoom, What’sApp and Skype. In addition to teaching English and ESL, I have taught Computer Studies and tutored in all core subjects.
I find the most important thing is to show students that you are interested in them. Students enjoy a discussion about their backgrounds, their hobbies and their English language learning goals. I use that information to plan lessons based around their topics of interest. Also students have different styles of learning so one approach may not be appropriate for all. Having the ability to be flexible has enabled me to plan and deliver lessons for the different learning styles. Making lessons fun by including vocabulary games, quizzes and roles plays for example have shown to increase motivation. I am also a good listener and encourage students to ask questions. This helps develop their understanding.
