Information about Anika - Willoughby tutor

Personal Description:

My name is Anika, I've been a music/piano teacher for over 6 years and absolutely love the feeling of sharing my passion and knowledge with others!
I never thought I'd end up being a music teacher, previously I worked as a sound designer for TV and Film, and also in a design studio as the studio manager.
I've always enjoyed the creative arts and believe there isn't just 'one way' to approach teaching. The one thing that is for sure is that you need to get to know your students, make them feel comfortable to open up and trust you. I love working with kids because they are so excited and up for a challenge. They can be a handful no doubt, but luckily I'm very patient!
I enjoy singing, playing piano and writing my own songs in my spare time - I'll be releasing my songs on Spotify very soon!

Tuition Experience:

Over 6 years of teaching experience in music for preschoolers, piano for beginner to advanced levels, beginner guitar and singing. I've been running my own music school business **Removed By Admin** since 2016 in Cammeray & Northbridge NSW.

Tutoring Approach:

I always make an effort to get to know my students (no matter what age they are). I need to understand their learning patterns in order to help them understand the music theory concepts in a way that makes sense to them. I struggled as a child and teen in understanding sight-reading, but had a strong musical ear and touch. It took me a long time to appreciate that is just as important and useful as a musician as it is to sight-read!
My approach is more modern than most piano teachers. Our lessons are fun, humourous, and fast-paced because that's what it takes to make an impression with younger students. For teens, it's more relaxed and focused on removing any insecurities they may be feeling. We've all been there!
I want to help students develop a lifetime love of music, and use in whichever form is meaningful to them. I hope they look back on their time with me and my teachers as the most fun they had learning!
