Personal Description:

Hi there! My name is Alexandra, and I am 23, currently living in Hawthorn. I moved from a small city in Queensland to Melbourne five years ago in pursuit of experiencing big city life!

My passion for teaching and mentoring has been present since I was a young child. If I had it my way, we were playing schools and I (of course) was the teacher. Throughout my school years, I tutored my younger cousins and fellow students and they were always pleased with their results.

Seeing students have their 'aha!' moment is something that brings great joy. Tutoring offers me a chance to teach students one-on-one, and really focus on the individual students strengths and how these strengths can be used to their benefit.

My lessons are structured around each student, and I use what I have learned in my Education classes at university to ensure that each of my student's lessons are innovative and individualised.

Tuition Experience:

I have experience in tutoring VCE English and History, as well as lower grade English, and Humanities (History, Geography, Civics.)

I am currently in my final year at Swinburne University, studying a Double Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education in Arts (History/Literature). I have completed three teaching placements in varying Melbourne schools, in which I created my own unit plans, developed lessons, and was solely responsible for multiple English and History classes.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to teaching and tutoring focus on individualism, expression, and interest. A teaching style (pedagogy) should consider the backgrounds and preferred learning styles of their students. My preferred pedagogy involves substantive conversation (discussing the content) and engagement of the student (exploring concepts that are relevant and interest the student.)

To picture this, an average tutoring class would be scheduled similarly: Viewing the content, discussion, brainstorming, exploring further, reflecting, concluding.
