Personal Description: I am a 29 year old qualified climbing instructor and Exercise to Music instructor, but English is my main subject. I have four years experience teaching climbing and dance to adults and children.
I have a PGCE in Secondary English, a degree in Linguistics and have previously worked as a speech therapy assistant and teaching assistant in a special needs school.
I have lived in Sheffield for 7 years, I originally moved here for the climbing!

Tutoring Experience: I have been a qualified teacher for a year. During this time I have taught all age ranges, from 11 to 17 years old (years 7 - 12), in aspects of langauge and literature.
As my background is in linguistics, I can offer tution in English Language up to A-level, and in Literature up to GCSE level. My previous year 10 students enjoyed their best grades for their English Literature course work and my year 7 students were beginning to enjoy Shakespeare.
I also have experience teaching special needs, and have had great success in increased student confidence and skills in reading and writing.
In my dance classes, my students have commented on their own increased confidence and abilities; and all of my students in my climbing sessions leave with a smile and they all have come back for more!

Tutoring Approach: I believe that the teacher's role is to make the subject understandable to the student and that teaching works best if the student is motivated and inspired to learn. With that in mind, we will have a chat before starting tutoring about your goals and what you want to learn, where you can improve and your particular areas of interest. We will then build a course that is specific to your needs.
I work in a relaxed and friendly way, no question is 'too silly'. My aim to to help you to learn and gain understanding and confidence in your subject.
