Information About Wallace

Personal Description: As an Oxford undergraduate studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics, I have a wide variety of interests and skills, and am well-equipped to assume the role of tutor for a range of subjects. A place at Oxford University has always been my own personal dream, and having overcome many, many hurdles to reach this position, I am passionate about helping others to fulfil their potential. I know what it is to have excellent teachers educate, inspire and support you: I am also very familiar with the hard work and self-motivation needed to excel. As a tutor, I will always aim to make subjects interesting and fun, so that the desire for hard work will follow. Striving for perfection in all things, I will only be satisfied with the job when you, too, are satisfied. I am available for tutoring in Oxford during the short eight week terms, otherwise I can travel around Wokingham, Reading, Ascot, Aldershot and the surrounding areas. In addition to the subjects quoted, I would be delighted to help with general study skills, entrance exams, or university applications.

Having been appointed Debating Captain at school, my interests include public speaking, debating and current affairs. I play squash for my college and also enjoy ballet dancing and opera.

Tutoring Experience: I worked as a volunteer teacher in Fiji, where my activities included helping children to read and write in English, setting and marking work, and maintaining classroom discipline. I currently work as a mentor and childminder for an autistic teenager. In my role as Debating Captain I set up a debating club and taught debating skills; I have also coached public speaking teams. Furthermore, I am self taught in Photography and Religious Studies GCSE, and Maths and Critical Thinking A Level.

Tutoring Approach: I am very enthusiastic about education, and yet as a tutor I strive to be always patient and diligent. My approach is flexible: in my opinion it is of paramount importance to consider the needs of each unique tutee, and to employ the method that works best in each individual case. This said, I will always stress the enjoyable and interesting aspects of the subjects. Studying should not be seen as a chore, but as a healthy way to exercise the brain and increase knowledge of the world. I am meticulous and thorough in all I do, so I will gladly read through syllabuses, identify key areas that need work, organise teaching and revision plans and set and mark work. We will work together to achieve the best results possible.

From Jenny (5/5): (GCSE Maths) Wallace has been able to offer our son one to one assistance with his maths in preparation for his maths modules at GSCE level. To date we have found Wallace punctual , approachable and above all our son has found the sessions with Wallace beneficial and worthwhile. Many thanks to Wallace for keeping his interest in the subject alive!

From Sharon (5/5): (GCSE English) My son finds her patient and easy to understand and is slowly gaining some confidence in a subject he has struggled with for a number of years.

From Monica (5/5): (A-Level Economics) Great teaching abilities, very knowledgable and reliable! Not only helpful during tutoring sessions but also willing to go out of her way outside of sessions to help maintain thorough exam practice. Highly recommended.

From Julie (5/5): (A-Level Economics) Wallace was great at communicating every step with me, quickly identifying gaps in knowledge and working through the units. I am sure the assistance will be recognised in my forthcoming exams (shame we ran out of time).

Reply from Wallace: Hiya - thanks for leaving the feedback and good luck again with the exams!
