Personal Description: I first became interested in primary teaching through a college placement in a local school, at the time I was training for work in the health sector but working within a school made me realise that I enjoyed working with children and teaching them, so this experience confirmed teaching as my future career choice.
My teaching qualifications and over six years working with children have propelled my enthusiasm and prepared me to teach effectively either in or out of the classroom, with big groups of children or on a one to one basis.
Alongside my degree I believe that most of my experience and training has come from working with fantastic teaching staff and the children themselves.
Tutoring Experience: I am a fully qualified degree level Teaching Assistant and work in a primary school, I work with the Reception class, KS1 and KS2, age four to eleven… I have been in my current teaching position for six years this year. My school has mixed classes and I often take one of the year groups into another area to teach, either in groups or on a one to one basis.
I have planned, carried out and assessed lessons following the National Curriculum Strategies and other policies related to the subject and age range.
I have also worked with special needs children and adults on a voluntary basis during my training.
My qualifications and teaching experience have trained me to cover all National Curriculum Subjects also I am familiar with policies and procedures including Every Child Matters and Birth to Three etc.
Working with all year groups has given me a good understanding of the learning styles of different age children and of the primary curriculum and what makes an effective teacher.
During my final year at university I studied several modules including Education in the Developing World, the Education of vulnerable Young People, Race and Education, Learners with Disabilities and Learning Difficulties to name a few. Each subject area has helped me appreciate how different approaches can be useful, focusing on individual needs.
I have also been on many work related courses including learning through story-sacks, Lake Land first aid, art and craft activities etc.
I am new to home tutoring but have worked with one child as his tutor going to his home and have really enjoyed the experience I would like to continue working as a tutor to young children alongside my teaching in schools. I believe this will give me a good standing to work from as I know what schools expect and how they teach phonics, letter formation etc.
Tutoring Approach: I have a great passion for teaching and feel that my time in school has developed my philosophy of valuing each child as an individual, learning about them and their families. I feel this is very important as is building up a relationship so that to them I am approachable and they feel happy in my company.
I aim to give children as many opportunities and experiences, in order to engage, motivate and prepare them for their futures. I believe that appropriate, challenging and creative activities alongside learning guidelines are essential in developing children's skills, knowledge and understanding. These all underpin their personalised learning.
I believe that learning through play is very important with children in their first school years, I have spent many hours creating resources and lesson ideas that can be enjoyed by children, resources that can be used as learning aids but that children can relate to ie characters they recognise, bright and colourful objects.
I will differentiate for each child, following along with what they need as individuals. Children all learn in different ways and I will do my very best to work for them and their parents.
I will aim to keep the child on task supporting them to become more independent leaner's, showing appreciation and making the child feel valued whilst showing an interest in their thoughts and ideas.
