Information About Tuan

Personal Description: I am currently a student from Imperial College reading Electrical & Electronics Engineering in the best department in the field in the UK. I currently hold a full scholarship to study in Imperial. I obtained all Distinctions for my A level core subjects (Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Economics). I have obtained first class status for both of my 1st and 2nd year at Imperial being in the top 10% of the cohort. I hope to be able to use my current coaching experience with my strength in Mathematics, Physics and Economics to help my tutees to achieve a basic understanding of the subjects and thus gain confidence and perform well in their exams.

Tutoring Experience: I have taught students at all levels (Primary, GCSE level and A/IB level) in the area of Mathematics, Physics and Economics.

The students I have coached all have done much better than they expected in the exams. In fact, one of my tutees got an offered by Queen Mary college and Kent college from rather a low starting point when he first met me. I was really happy about this fact and I really hope to continue helping other students in the same way.

Another point that may be of your interest is that I taught students from various backgrounds and abilities. I have taught students who originally comes from the UK, Italy, France, China, Vietnam, etc. Among these students, their academic starting points were also quite diverse. Some students came to me with a low fail, some came with a slight pass. I even had students who did well but wanted to improve quickly to try for top-tier colleges/universities. Therefore, I am confident that I can handle various types of students.

Tutoring Approach: My approach is simple: to equip my students with a very CLEAR UNDERSTANDING of the BASIS so that he/she can solve all problems (familiar to him/her or not).
In order to do that, my methodology is:
1. Understand my tutees' current level by giving a simple concept test
2. Teaching him/her the basic concepts following closely the GCSE/A level/IB syllabus using vivid illustrations
3. Give various type of practice questions to him/her to try
4. Explain to him/her the answer to each question so that he can link from the basic concepts.
5. Give an overview test at each topics to check his/her real understanding
Most importantly, I will tailor this to best suit my tutee's ability.

Qualifications:
  • 2012: Expected first class with honours in MEng. Electrical and Electronics Engineering - Imperial College (Masters)
  • 2008: Cambridge A level - National Junior College (Singapore) (College)
  • 2006: Cambridge O level - Saint Joseph's Institution (School)

From Edwina (5/5): (A-Level Economics) Tuan was excellent in helping my son through his Economics AS Level preparation - lots of useful hints and tips. He was also very up to date with the current curriculum.

Reply from Tuan: Thank you for your feedback. I always aim to bring a focused approach to my student, giving him a structure to get the most of the score out of his exams. I hope Max has benefited much from my service.

From Nicolas (5/5): (A-Level Maths) Tuan has a good way of teaching maths through explaining the base of each type of equation which is really usefull in maths: even though you can just work maths for hours, you will remember your formulas more easily if you actually understand fully it's meaning.

Reply from Tuan: Thank you for your feedback.

Teaching maths from the basics (which is easy for student to understand actually) is my style. More often tutors skip this step and thus results in lots of practice without understanding. Hopefully with this style of teaching together with lots of vivid examples, my students will slowly gain confidence in maths (to believe it's not that hard) and perform well in exam.

Tuan.

From Federico (5/5): (A-Level Maths) With Tuan i'm definitly improving my skills with exam questions, understanding them appropriately and solving them faster. My abilities in maths and physics problem solving have improved a lot in a very brief period of time.

Reply from Tuan: Thank you for your feedback. My approach has always been to treat my student as a friend and help him to both understand the basics and improve exam skills.
