Information About Tracy

Personal Description: I live with my young son and partner in the Central Borders. I have just obtained a First Class LL.B (Hons) from the University of Stirling.

NEW PRICE REDUCTION FOR FEBRUARY ONLY!

Many parents have found prices of tutors to be too expensive, so for those signing up in February 2012 prices have been reduced. If I can be of any help please get in touch.

Tutoring Experience: Whilst still at school, I tutored a family friend up to Higher level Maths in order for her to be admitted to Moray House in Edinburgh to study Primary school teaching. I have also helped my younger brother and sister with Standard grade levelled subjects.I have now had thirteen different tutees; one of whom achieved Standard Grade English a year early.
I worked part time at a primary school's after school club and therefore am patient and understanding to children and young people of differing ages.
Over the past five years I have worked with tutees via First Tutors, studying Maths, English and French.

Tutoring Approach: Every student is different. It is important to determine their strengths and work in an organised manner through the issues causing concern. This will require the tutee completing work before the tutorial in order to get as much as possible from the subject. Exam techniques are also very important, particularly around exam/prelim time. I would aim to continously work towardss assessment goals, whilst expanding, through learning, on what should be focused on for the exam. This is especially important for Standard Grade level and above, but should be built up through previous levels at both Primary and Secondary school to lead to a smooth transition between levels. I would be more than willing to explain my methods in more detail, if requested.

From Andrew (5/5): (Secondary Maths) Fantastic, Tracy has a great manner and built our sons confidence up in only a few sessions. He is now heading in the right direction wiht his maths. We have no hesitation in recommending her to any one who is looking for a tutor in the borders. Brilliant.

Reply from Tracy: Ben is a keen learner and it is rewarding to see his confidence grow during our sessions. As a result of tutoring Ben I am now helping two of his friends with their maths too.

From Christine (5/5): (GCSE English) Tracy is a very pleasant person and my daughter is enjoying her tutor sessions with her. Very helpful with recent essay, although early days and would like to find a regular night preferably at 7pm, realise your a very busy person. All good so far can you give me some feed back on what you think of progress. Thanks.

From Amy (5/5): (Secondary Maths) Tracy communicated well with Amy, gave us good, sensible advice regarding Amy's needs and when we left Amy said she'd enjoyed it - something I never thought I'd hear!

From Debbie (5/5): (GCSE Maths) Very impressed heard from Tracey within minutes of posting the request and had a very succesful lesson organised for that night having been given a few options for that week.

From Sharon (5/5): (GCSE Maths) son only had 2 lessons so far, but says that she is very good at explaining things… he doesnt feel he needs to ask questions as she covers things very well. for a young man who hates maths to go happily means to me that she must be very good.

From Adam (4/5): (Primary Maths) Tracy was very helpful but advised that our child was where he should be in his education and there was no need for her services at this stage. I will definitely keep her details in case we should need her in the future.

Reply from Tracy: I am very honest about whether tutoring is required which it wasn't in this case. I would be happy to review the situation as the parents see fit.

From Ellis (3/5): (GCSE Maths) Tracy is a very bright intelligent young woman. We arranged for her to teach our daughter in maths, but after a few weeks she felt our daughter was not getting the best out of the sessions, this was partly due to our daughter being very shy and allthough I am certain our daughter was learning from her, Tracy was not convinced.I appreciate her honesty in this as it would have been easy for her to continue to take money for limited benefit. My only issue with Tracy was the fact that she maybe has a little too much on her plate and as a result it was difficult to arrange regular sessions I am sure that whilst Tracy was not a success for us she would work for other children.

Reply from Tracy: It is very difficult to tutor a child who does not want to speak throughout the sessions. Trying to ascertain what information has been retained is almost impossible. Therefore, progress cannot be monitored and where after several sessions where there has been no improvement in the tutee speaking, the fairest thing for all parties is for the tutoring to come to an end. I think honesty in this regard is very important.

From Helen (5/5): (GCSE Maths) Tracy seems to have a magic touch with my 15 year old son. He can arrive at her house in a teenage depression and comes out positive and smiling. His attitude to Maths which he is taking at GCSE level has vastly improved and he seems to feel it is not all a waste of time anymore. I can only recommend her highly as someone who makes it interesting and clear.

From Rachel (5/5): (GCSE English) My daughter has had 3 tutoring sessions with Tracy in the lead up to my daughter sitting her standard grades. My daughter feels that these sessions (English standard grade) have already been of benefit to her. Tracy is friendly and approachable and immediately after meeting Tracy my daughter felt at ease. My daughter has little confidence in her English skills and Tracy has been able to encourage her and improved her self-esteem. We hope that these tutoring sessions will be ongoing throughout the school year.

From Pearl (2/5): (A-Level English) Tracy was a good tutor but having agreed to tutor my son in both higher maths and english we found out she was pregnant but assured this would not be a problem. Tracy stopped tutoring beginning of December saying she would starting again in January, she has not decided not to return leaving me with no tutor for a son who is sitting prelims at end of January.

Reply from Tracy: I tutored Mrs Brechin's son on a regular basis for 3 and a half months. I was always willing to switch tutoring times to suit the tutee when personal issues arose and when times did not suit between myself and the tutee. I made clear I was pregnant from the beginning. I stopped tutoring at the beginning of December, leaving ideas of study to be done and making clear anything that was sent to me would be marked and returned while I was unable to tutor over the seasonal period (free of charge) - this offer was never taken up.

Although I had every intention of returning to tutor, due to a difficult labour (1 week ago) my recovery has been slow. Therefore I informed Mrs Brechin at the earliest opportunity that I would be unable to return to my tutoring duties within the near future. Therefore, to ensure her son receives the assistance he requires before his prelims, I advised she seek a new tutor. I wish her son well in his studies.

From Joseph (5/5): (GCSE English) Did some great work with my son,my only regret I didn't use her sooner, however my son passed English a year earlier. will be using Tracy this year again for other subjects.
