Personal Description: I am qualified teacher working at a secondary school in Somerset. I am currently studing for my research Masters while i am teaching… I graduated from university with a 2.1 (hons) degree in Marine Biology in 2006 at the age of 21.

For the following years I worked for PGL: an outdoor activity company for children from primary to young adults as an activity instructor (qualified to teach and instruct fencing, quad bikes, archery, first aid, mountain biking and intelligence skills among others). I also worked in the education department as a field studies instructor taking children and adults rock pooling around Torquay and walking on Dartmoor as well as running sessions on site in ICT and science.

After this I worked for a year as a Teaching Assistant in a school in Leicester, which made up my mind I wanted to teach as a career.

Tutoring Experience: I qualified as a teacher in 2009 and have just completed my first year (NQT) teaching at secondary school in Somerset. I have enjoyed learning over the past couple of years about different learning styles, differentiation of work, assessment but most of all i have enjoyed seeing pupils progress.

I also have been a form tutor and look forward to seeing my form develop and grow as learners in their time at the school.

Tutoring Approach: Science is a fantastic subject to learn, however it is common for pupils to loose interest in lessons when they think they will never did it again. I have an enthusiastic approach as I love the subject - I enjoy learning about new concepts more than ever. Teachers should learn as much from the pupils as pupils learn from their teachers.

As a tutor I will make your child more determined, motivated and confident in science, I will also help your child to be more of an independent learner and develop thinking skills through my resources.

As a TA I did tutoring within the school with selected pupils and was amazed how they responded in one to one or small group situations. Those pupils commented they found me easy to work with and approachable.

I often ask pupils I teach what I can do to improve my teaching and always take their comments seriously.
