Personal Description: I have been working as a primary teacher in the greater Glasgow area for the past 4 years. In addition to working in mainstream schools, I have significant experience in supporting children that face barriers to learning; namely, English as an additional language, dyslexia, dyscalculia and emotional/behavioural disorders.

Tutoring Experience: I have worked in mainstream schools as both a classroom teacher and peripatetic EAL teacher, supporting those pupils newly arrived in the country and diagnosed with a specific learning disorder.

I have significant experiece of teaching children with emotional and behavioural disorders.

I am currently working in a Glasgow secondary school where I provide support for learning to young people in English and Math.

Tutoring Approach: I aim for an atmosphere of mutual respect where learning is directed by the learner. I encourage creative thinking to resolve problems and emphasise the use of contextual learning in order to make experiences useful and relevant wherever applicable.

I encourage my learners to find the solution to a problem, or question through intensive, structured questioning, and trial & error.

I believe that patience and positive reinforcement are the keys to successful teaching. This be applied within a carefully organised framework where learners are offered achievable goals that build their confidence.

I teach children skills that help them to learn independently, rather than simply teaching to the test. It is my goal to leave each tutee capable of working and studying as an independent, confident learner that will never need a tutor again.

Qualifications:

• 2006: Post graduate diploma in child education (PGDE) from Strathclyde University's Jordanhill college. - Strathclyde University, Jordanhill campus (PGCE)
• 2002: Business and Information Management BA (hons) - Glasgow Caledonian University (Bachelors)
