Personal Description: I have a great love for science, especially biology. After completing my degree I have wanted to gain some experience in tutoring as I would like to teach some day. I currently work in the the biological industry and am applying for a PhD for next year. Sometimes at school I felt it hard to take in the information given by the teacher, I totally understand how hard it could be teaching to 20+ students. In my second year at college I realised that in order to get good grades the work has to be put in. This was obviously quite late to realise but I did another year at college and brought my biology grade up from a D to a B and my psychology grade from a D to a C.
I would like to use my experiences in education to teach others and give them a helping hand in their exams or coursework. I understand that parts of school and college can be tricky and all it needs is some one on one tuition to make things a little clearer.
Tutoring Experience: I do not have any experience teaching officially but I have helped with family and friends with their studies and coursework. When I was in my 3rd year of college there were a few first years that struggled with biology and IT, so in class I would break stuff down for them into my manageable pieces which could then be built up into an understanding of the subject.
Tutoring Approach: I do not really know if I have an approach yet because I have not had a chance to find one. I find it easier to take in smaller bits of information. I would like to make the tutee feel comfortable so they don't feel awkward in asking any questions. I feel that asking questions is one major way of learning and it is something that teachers cannot always do.
