Information About Seher

Personal Description: Hi there! I am a friendly, enthusiastic and passionate teacher of English. I love working with children and have excellent experience of teaching in Secondary schools in Scotland and giving private tuition on a one to one basis. I am also au fait with the National Curriculum in England as I am currently teaching English at a College in Leicestershire. At the moment, I teach pupils GCSE English Language and Literature and A level Language and Literature. Therefore, I can help your child to complete or enhance their coursework and exam skills.
I am always thoroughly prepared so that every pupil can get the most out of each session and feel confident. As exams are coming up soon, I would be happy to help anyone who needs guidance with exam preparation or essay writing skills. I offer lessons from Year 7 to Year 13, including A level.
I am a qualified teacher and have a MSc in Comparative Literature from The University of Edinburgh (with distinction) and a BA in English from the University of York. My approach is simple: lessons should always help children to think for themselves and to learn important lessons about themselves and others - this is something that studying literature can offer.
Do contact me via email or text! Do not hesitate to contact me in the evenings as well… I am more than happy to travel to you… I look forward to hearing from you!

Tutoring Experience: I have worked for three years in the following Secondary schools in Scotland: at Breadalbane Academy, Perthshire, Perth Academy, Perthshire and in various other schools in Perth as a Supply teacher. I have also taught at a SEBD school in Warwickshire and a Secondary school in Leicester. I am currently teaching English, KS4 and Sixth form, in a Secondary school in Leicestershire.
I have also offered tuition on a one-to-one basis for a few years now. I have a current CRB (July 2011).
As I love tutoring, I would be happy to teach pupils in the evenings and at the weekend.

Tutoring Approach: I am always thoroughly prepared and bring several resources (worksheets, texts) to the lesson to ensure that the pupil is constantly working on improving their skills and understanding of English literature. I offer interactive, friendly and fun lessons that I plan prior to the lesson. My sessions are usually highly structured and involve a mixture of language work and analysis of literature. I try to provide homework for the pupil to complete during the week to ensure continuity between lessons. I set targets during the first lesson and review these every few lessons to ensure the pupil is making good progress. A discernible progress is evident after a few lessons: my recent tutees went from a B to an A within a matter of a few sessions and a D to a B. This summer, I contributed towards the 83% A* - C grades in my department. I also helped 6 students to get an A* grade in English at GCSE. If you would like to achieve similar success for your child, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me!

From Peter (5/5): (A-Level English) very helpful, i would recommend Seher without hesitation.

Reply from Seher: Thank you Peter! It's been a pleasure to teach Sonja!

From Kalyanie (4/5): (GCSE English) Seher is a very kind and friendly teacher. She has been tutoring my son for the last few weeks. My son likes her approach to teaching and found her very helpful. Seher identified my son's weak points in the subject (English and English Lit) quickly, and has been helping him to improve his confident, planning and writing skills.
