Information About Sarah

Personal Description: I am married, with two children at secondary school. I enjoy reading, swimming, ice skating and having fun with the family!

Tutoring Experience: I taught for 8 years in Primary and Middle Schools and was Head of Maths at my last full-time post. For the past 15 years I have tutored privately in Maths, English and preparation for Secondary School Entrance Exams at 11+. I am also employed for 1:1 tuition by my local education authority.

Tutoring Approach: The first lesson will be an assessment so that I can discover what the tutee can do, areas where he/she may struggle and get to know how he/she approaches the subject. I will then plan a scheme of work to follow; to build on what they know and to strengthen any weak areas. I will review this plan every few weeks. I try to be as practical as possible and let the tutee's understanding set the speed of work. I only tutor at my own house.

Qualifications:
  • 1980: 12 '0' levels and 3 'A' levels including Maths and English - Wolverhampton Girls' High School (School)
  • 1986: Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree from Homerton College, Cambridge - Homerton College, Cambridge (Bachelors)

From Elizabeth (5/5): (Primary Entrance Exams) My daughter has had four sessions with Sarah now and is enjoying working with her, despite her initial reservations. Sarah seems to make the lessons fun and ensures her pupils fully understand each step of the work to ensure a natural and speedy progression. She sets homework to continue the learning process between lessons and gives ample encouragement and feedback.
