Personal Description: I am a qualified primary teacher with a career going back some twenty years. I also have a BA degree in English and I work as a freelance editor, proofreader and writer from home.

I am a mother with three children and my interests include reading, creative writing, walking and travelling, drama and films and music.

Tutoring Experience: I have taught in the primary sector from age 3 to 11 in a range of rural and urban settings. I have previous experience tutoring in English and a wide ranging knowledge of the subject.

I am confident teaching maths at primary level. I enjoy teaching this subject, possibly because I found it challenging as a child which I think helps inform my understanding of teaching new concepts and helping children gain in confidence.

Tutoring Approach: I was originally trained to deliver a child centred education and I feel it is essential to nurture and develop the strengths of each child and to tailor all teaching appropriately to the needs of the individual. I aim to encourage each student to fulfill their potential and I have high expectations.

I feel it is important to establish a rapport based on mutual respect and understanding and to act as an enabler and favilitator to the learning process. It is also worth bearing in mind that the learning journey continues through life.

• 1981: O'level Maths - Bridlington School (School)
