Personal Description: I am a conscientious and experienced teacher who gets great satisfaction from seeing children become more confident learners. I started my career as a librarian, but enjoyed teaching library skills to children so much that I retrained as a teacher. Last academic year I worked as a One to One Tutor in three local middle schools. I very much enjoy working with individual children. Although I have a Masters degree in Education, I struggled to become a fluent reader and speller at school, so I can identify with the difficulties some children experience with Literacy and Numeracy.

Tutoring Experience: I have been a teacher for more than 16 years. I have taught from Year 1 to Year 8. Most time has been spent teaching Key Stage 2 classes, and tutoring KS2 & KS3 children individually. I especially enjoy tutoring individual children in school and privately.

Tutoring Approach: I like to use a range of activities and approaches to tutoring depending on the individual tutee. I aim to provide variety to maintain motivation. I plan each tutorial carefully to meet targets which have been agreed with the tutee. If things are not going as well as expected I will adapt the tutorial to make the activities more appropriate or change my approach as I learn more about the tutees abilities, learning style and interests. A feeling of success is important to effective learning. I have a love of learning myself and like to keep up to date with new teaching ideas as well as using tried and tested traditional methods when appropriate.
