Personal Description: I am a graduate from Goldsmith's University where I received a BA (hones) in Drama and English and P.A.C.E in Place, Space and Identity. I have completed an evening course in set design for film and television and run a book club local to Hackney where I am involved in the Hackney Wicked Arts Festival.
I have worked in the book trade for five years and I have a love of literature.
I run a performance night in East London once a month, for which I find acts, organise the event and host the evening.
I have worked for 3 London theatres including the Hackney Empire and the Southwark Playhouse as well as being a cast member for 1929, ShortNights Theatre Company and the Company of Angels.
I have a wide knowledge of Jacobean play texts, Avant Garde Theatre and contemporay performance forms and playwrites.
I am a patient, positive and friendly person with good communication skills and a passion for what I teach.
Tutoring Experience: I have previously tutored G.C.S.E and A-Level English Literature and Drama and Theatre Studies to underprivileged youths in Hackney and Dalston. I have taught young people of all abilities including those with learning difficulties and disabilities.
I have worked as a workshop assistant for Chickenshed Theatre Company who run drama and performance workshops for children and young people with severe learning difficulties and disabilities.
I have led reading groups for young people based in Waterstone's in Trafalgar Square which encourage young people to read a larger range of styles and genres.
Tutoring Approach: I believe in finding the students particular passions and using them to investigate the subject or topic. Previously this has proved successful and often leads to the student independently exploring the material before the next session. I believe that each session should be tailored to the student’s specific needs. I include references, additional texts, useful further reading and websites and activities in my sessions.
I encourage debate and discussion when investigating topics as a primary base, later working on the written communication and clarity of what has been discussed.
I drama I believe that physical performance is the beginning of a thorough investigation of a text and I encourage students to recite the material in question.
