Personal Description: I am a married man with two grown up children. My main interests are sport, travel and photography.

Tutoring Experience: I have recently retired from full time maths teaching, having taught in a number of Northamptonshire schools over the last 36 years, the majority as either head of department or head of year. I am still involved with schools though delivering "one to one" tuition to selected pupils and targeted revision sessions to GCSE students leading up to their exams.
Each year virtually all of my students achieved or exceeded their target GCSE grades. I have also considerable experience as a GCSE maths examiner which gives me insight into how to be successful in passing exams.
In the last year or so I have tutored more year 5 to 7 students to help bridge the gap between junior and secondary school

Tutoring Approach: Maths should be seen as "can do" subject. As a result I encourage students to be as confident as they can about their studies and not to be afraid of making a mistake. Some students find this daunting in a formal class, but in one to one or small group situations most students feel less pressurised and as a result confidence grows which allows understanding to take place.
I supply a range of text books and past papers for GCSE work and with younger students I will also use a number of games and activities to stimulate interest
