Information About Rhys

Personal Description: I studied chemistry at Oxford University from 2006-2010, graduating with a 1st class degree. I now work as a computer programmer in Redhill. I enjoyed the maths/chemistry tutoring I did during my 4th year at Oxford, and would be keen to accept students in Redhill/Reigate or the surrounding area for tuition on weekday evenings or the weekend.

Tutoring Experience: I have separately tutored eight students so far, teaching KS3 maths, GCSE maths and AS/A2 chemistry.

Tutoring Approach: Although it is important for the tutor to initially explain a concept to the tutee, I believe a proper level of understanding can only be achieved by guiding the tutee through plenty of worked examples, followed by setting homework problems for the tutee to attempt independently.

From Dawn (5/5): (A-Level Chemistry) My daughter had A level chemistry tuition from Rhys and she writes: Rhys was extremely helpful in explaining the Chemistry that I did not previously understand.What I particularly liked about his tutoring method was the fact that he explained the Chemistry maybe a bit more than the syllabus required which gave me greater understanding and hence made it easier to understand the Chemistry on the syllabus. He set homework every week and was very thorough in making sure that I understood anything that I had got wrong.

He emphasised working through questions both in session and through set homework to build up a greater understanding of the topic and exam questioning. Rhys was easy to communicate with, promptly responding to queries and in addition he was very flexible in terms of making himself available to tutor both during the week and at weekends.
