Personal Description: Hello!
What can I tell you about myself?
I'm friendly and approachable and probably not at all what people might imagine a maths teacher to be like. I came to maths teaching relatively late in life because I never really appreciated just how important it was, or just how fascinating it could be. As a child, I must confess I found maths rather dull! That may sound like a terrible thing for a maths teacher to say, but it actually means that I usually know exactly how my students are feeling when they start out on a course of study or tuition, which puts me in the perfect position for adressing those fears and preconceived ideas which can interfere with successful learning.

Tutoring Experience: I work as a maths teacher in a North East college teaching right across the age spectrum, from adults learning numeracy to improve their job prospects, to young people who have struggled with the school system and left school with no maths qualifications, including excluded children.

Tutoring Approach: Every student is different and has their own individual way of learning. My approach is less one of teaching AT the student, and more one of collaboration, building on strengths and interests, and tackling problems areas through a cooperative learning approach.
