If you are struggling to learn English or your English requires improvement or you require some specialist English then you need my help. I have been an English language tutor for over ten years and have worked teaching in schools and privately in Spain, France, Mexico and China. I am a retired businessman and father of three boys with a voracious interest in sport, history, current affairs and learning about other countries.

Tutoring Experience

I have prepared students for IELTS, TOEFL, (i)GCSE, FCE, independent school entrance exams, the Kent Test as well as editing PhD theses, preparation for debating competitions and HMUN over the last ten years. I also worked in schools in Spain and Mexico as well as the UK for a number of years. I have taught adults and children from China, Ukraine, Poland, Italy, Mexico, Germany, France and many more. I have extensive experience in preparing foreign students for studying in US and UK universities.

Tutoring Approach

I am keen to tailor my classes to the individual requirements of my students. It is important to find out the student's interests and to try to improve their English through topics they already enjoy.
I am adaptable and thrive on a new challenge such as teaching formal debating or specialised academic writing such as for scientific doctorates. For the last two years in particular I have been teaching online using Zoom. I use material from a library of coursebooks that I have amassed with additional topical material from Youtube etc. With respect to children I have a 100% pass rate in the Kent Test and have worked with absolute beginners (A1) to advanced learners (C1). I particularly enjoy the discipline and rigour required in preparing students for examinations.
