Information About Morag

Personal Description: I am a trainee teacher on the TeachFirst programme and currently work as a full-time teacher of Chemistry and Biolgy. I teach both Chemistry and Biology at KS3 and KS4.
I am a graduate of Glasgow University with a MSci degree in Genetics, which included topics such as biochemistry, molecular biology and mathematics. I have also recently completed a MSc in Forensic Science at the University of Strathclyde for which I was awarded a distinction. I consider myself to be friendly, hardworking and punctual. I am very enthusiastic about my subjects, and would love the opportunity to motivate and help others achieve their goals.

Tutoring Experience: I have been working full-time as trainee teacher since September 2011. The teachfirst training route places students in full-time positions within schools from the onset, therefore although I am still a trainee I teach a full timetable and I am very familiar with teaching and learning stragtegies and assessment criteria, specifically at KS4.
During my second and third years at University I volunteered as a mentor to the first year students, which I thoroughly enjoyed and gained a lot from. I have experience in teaching in small classroom situations as I recently returned from a gap year in which I spent some of my time working in a orphanage and teaching in the local school in Kenya.
I successfully tutored a number of pupils throughout my MSc course, which ultimately led me to join the teaching profession as I enjoyed this experience.

Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is drawn from past experiences, including having a tutor whilst at school and successful approaches used personally whilst at school and University. I believe in tailoring a session to suit individual needs and would focus on areas causing difficulty, whilst tying in all aspects of the course, as many topics are interlinked. Covering past exam papers is a fantastic way to consolidate knowledge. I believe in making learning as interesting as possible and I acknowledge that they're are a variety of teaching methods and learning strategies.
An initial introductory session would determine the students needs and the desired objectives.

From Alan (5/5): (GCSE Biology) Morag is an extremely pleasant tutor, always on time and provided the appropriatte level of tuition required delivered in the correct manner. She is young enough to understand how teenagers feel about school work and is able to encourage them in the right direction!!
