Personal Description: I am a recently (early!) retired Depute Head Teacher with 37 years continuous experience. I continue to be involved in Education - I work an afternoon a week in a local primary school with a small group on self - esteem/mental health issues and am a volunteer with Adult Literacy.

Tutoring Experience: I have taught P1 - P7. Before I retired I was responsible for assessing children who were experiencing difficulty in Maths and Language, as well as implementing and monitoring appropriate support strategies.
I have extensive knowledge of materials and strategies to support difficulties of a dyslexic nature.

I was also responsible for language/reading development in Nursery/Early Years
I have done modules on Dyspraxia, Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism - to name but a few!!

Tutoring Approach: Children who are experiencing difficulty have often lost confidence and self esteem. It is important to address this in order for them to make progress.
I would definitely do some INFORMAL assessment before deciding on a programme of work - difficulties can arise for a number of reasons.
I would be happy to be in contact with the child's school - only if the parents were in agreement - to make sure there was no conflict in the type of support being given by either party.
I am an enthusiastic, caring professional - with a sense of humour!
