As faculty head of English and Modern languages I have a broad knowledge of texts and I am well qualified to meet the curricular needs of any pupil. I have marked with the SQA for over 20 years including Folios and exams so am more experienced than many in expected pupil standards.
I also need to say that pupils come to my home as I do not drive and I have lots of materials at home.
I have been teaching all levels for 30 years. I have also been tutoring for 15/16years. The vast majority of my tutors go on to do well in exams and I have gone on to tutor siblings, cousins and friends of tutees due to their recommendations. I often take tutees through N5 then onto Higher the following year. I also believe in honesty and if a tutee is not working on homework I give, or seem lacklustre in their effort, I will let the parent know as I’m not in the business of taking someone’s hard earned cash if the pupil is not working hard.
Finally, I like tutees to feel comfortable and so I like to build a good working relationship with them as,if they feel relaxed and at ease, they will progress more.
As an experienced tutor I will supply work books and materials to supplement anything already supplied by school. I will look over and grade work done for me and even,if needed, give a second look at work done in school. I start by working on folio to help then choose topics and construct the best possible essays as these are a large percentage of final grade. I also do a lot on Close Reading skills as this can be a tricky area for a lot of pupils. I will also work on the texts being done in class by way of revision and additional material.
Finally I highly recommend not to leave it too late to secure a tutor. Every year I have to refuse people as they panic, especially after Prelim results, but by then all my spaces may be gone or I have little left to accommodate times.
