Information About Luke

Personal Description: I am recently qualified young teacher. I graduated from the Universtiy of Leicester in 2009 after reading Geology with Palaeobiology. Subsequently I went into teaching both science and geography.

I am also a keen sportsman, playing cricket, golf, cricket and refereeing football. I enjoy teaching and try to incorparate my active and enthusic personality into my teaching to create a good, safe, enjoyable and efective learning environment.

Tutoring Experience: I have taught at both Rushey Mead and Manor High School in the Leicester region. I have taught 11-16 year old pupils at Rushey Mead and I am currently teaching 10-14 year old pupils at Manor High School.

Whilst at Rushey Mead I taught the AQA scheme of work for GCSE. Though I have only been teaching for a short period of time I have found it very rewarding and I am looking forward to the new academic year. I am also currently studying for a masters in education in my spare time. This, I believe, will enhance my teaching practice and allow me to provide my students with the best possible education that I can offer.

Tutoring Approach: I feel that tutoring should not be as perscriptive as school often is. With geography and science different pupils find different areas harder than others. In both subjects different areas overlap and subsequently improving the areas that a tutee finds difficult will also infact greatly improve understanding in all areas of science and geography.

I also think that if pupils find out how science and geography is relevent to them, and to general life, then a greater understanding and interest can be achieved. Instead of just learning facts, learing the theories behind facts allows for a greater level of cognition. Subsequently the ability to apply these theories when questioned, increases both levels and grades.

From Margaret (4/5): (GCSE Chemistry) Luke has been a committed and patient tutor to my son who has various challenges.

He is appreciated by our family and we have requested that he continues this term in the slot he did last term.
