Personal Description: I am a female student currently entering my second year at the University of St Andrews, where I am studying for a Masters degree in Chemistry with Maths. In my first year as well as Mathematics and Chemistry modules, I also took a module in Physics. I play the cello and a bit of guitar, and am a friendly person who gets on well with people.

Tutoring Experience: I obtained my Standard Grade and Higher exams in the last few years, therefore I am knowledgeable on the course content. My main teaching experience has come from tutoring my friends and helping them with subjects in school, particularly with Maths, Chemistry and Physics and also with Biology. I explained areas which they did not understand and worked through questions with them. This seemed particularly helpful with regards to the nabs which you are required to pass at Higher level, as well as many of the calculations in Chemistry which they found to be a particular point of difficulty. In addition to this I have a younger sister who I am currently helping with her standard grades.

Tutoring Approach: I believe everyone learns differently and I would tailor my approach to each specific student. I think that with regards to learning the material, sometimes it is just required to be explained in a different way or be approached from a different angle for a student to be able to understand it. I revise all topics from the start of the year as it is the best way to learn and understand what will be expected for an exam. In addition. I work though questions together with the student, so that they are able to answer them alone as they would under exam conditions.

• In my final year of school, I received the Alex Mudie Memorial Cup for Biology, The Robert Allan Trust for Chemistry, The FP Centenary for Maths and The Alan Walmsley Memorial for Physics as well as The Camperdown Rotary Prize for Academic Excellence
• I received a Dundee City Council Focus on Achievement Award for Outstanding Performance in SQA Examinations in 2009 and a Purdie Scholarship from the University of St Andrews for a submitted essay as well as academic excellence/potential.
